*Meeting in a private home in Mile End
Free & all open to all
led by Lina Džuverović
The August meeting of the Feminist Duration Reading Group focuses on the feminist conference entitled ‘Drug-ca Žena’ (‘Comrade Woman’), held in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, in October 1978. The conference took place at Belgrade’s Student Cultural Centre – founded as an outcome of student protests in 1968 – and was attended by approximately 80 participants from across Europe. It was the first autonomous second wave feminist event held in South-Eastern and Eastern Europe and is considered to be a landmark feminist event for the ex-Yugoslav region.
We will read excerpts from the MA thesis of feminist scholar Chiara Bonfiglioli entitled ‘Comrade Woman. The Women’s Question: A New Approach?’ Thirty Years After,’ submitted in 2008 to Utrecht University. No advance reading is necessary as we read out loud together on the day.
The meeting takes place in a private home in Mile End. It includes cooking and eating vegan food, as well as reading and talking, together.
The session is led by Feminist Duration Working Group member Lina Džuverović.
